Applications of Steel Pre-Engineered Building


A Pre-engineered Building is a building that consists of light gauge metal roof panels on steel purlins connecting between rigid frames with light gauge metal wall cladding. It is a relatively flexible structure as compared to conventional structures.

Pre–engineered buildings consists of a complete steel-framed building system, with components pre-designed to fit together in a vast variety of combinations to meet the unique requirements of specific end uses.



Applications of Steel in PEB

1- Rigid steel frames of the building are mainly considered as the main frames of Pre Engineered Buildings (PEB).
2- Panels are used for sheeting purposes are generally of profiled steel sheets as roof and wall sheeting, roof and wall liners and partition.
3- Generally, Zinc Aluminium coated steel which are resistant to corrosion and heat are used.
4- Steel is also used in Main framing or vertical columns

Advantages of Steel Structure


Specialized steel structures is one of the structures, made from organized combination of structural steel members designed to carry loads and provide sufficient rigidity. In space frame companies, customization of these structures is generally done to match the functional and aesthetic requirement of the complete building system.



Following are different advantages of steel structures:


1. Reliability: 

Large span steelstructures are very reliable. They are reliable because of flexibility and consistency in properties. They have large elasticity and ductility. Steel is truly homogeneous and flexible material, so it satisfies most of the assumptions involved in derivation of analysis and design formulas and the result obtained are reliable. This may not be the case in concrete structures because concrete is heterogeneous material, due to cracking and non linearity of stress-strain relationship.

2. Long span structures: 

High rise building, long span bridges and tall transmission towers are made up of large span steel structures. Industrial steel buildings up to span of 90 meter can be designed by plate girders or trusses. Bridges span up to 260 meter are made with plate girders.

3. Water-tight and air-tight constructions: 

Steel structures provide completely resistant construction and structures like reservoirs, oil pipes, gas pipes etc are preferably made from structural steel.

4. Addition to existing structures: 

Steel can be added to the existing steel structures comfortably. Connections between new and existing structures can be employed very adequately. New bays or even entire wings can be added to existing steel buildings and steel bridges may often be extended.

5. Consistency, durability and performance: 

Steel is very homogeneous and uniform material. Hence it satisfies the basic assumptions of the most of the analysis and design formulas. The properties of steel do not change so much with the time if it is properly maintained. But the properties of concrete structures are considerably altered with time. Hence steel structures are more consistent and their performance is considerably good as compared to concrete structures.

6. Possible reuse: 

Steel sections can be reused after a structure is dismantled.

7. Scrap Value:

 Steel has a scrap value even though it is not reusable in its existing forms.
